Apprentice Olive the Alchemist for a 3 week syllabus on Mermaid Aquatic Performance. Master the human element of mermaiding in this half wet, half dry mermaid study. This course delves into the fundamental skills of safe breath holding, aquatic modeling, tank character performance swimming, and mermaid aquarium work. The Apprentice Mermaid course meets twice per week on Tuesdays and Thursdays, June 16th - 30th. Meet Tuesday evenings (5 p.m.) at our dry classroom space, SANCA, to study motion in the water and freediving techniques. Then, test your development Thursday mornings in the water at Tukwila Pool, (10 a.m. to 11 a.m. or 11 a.m. to noon) fully suited up with a mermaid tail and monofin. A dive log chronicling the Apprentice's growth will be gifted from the Alchemist at the end of the course to be used as a foundation for future self-lead training and comparison to future courses. Rental mermaid tails are available in an inclusive range of sizes. This course is available for merfolk aged 16 and up. Swimmers with the Seattle Mermaid School do not have to be the most confident in the water, however applicants should be able to complete 1 lap (25m) unassisted in human form. All Apprentice Mermaids are required to pass an instructed skills check prior to tailing up in the water. This is included in the instruction time of students' first pool lesson.
